Couponing is one of the most popular and well-known ways to use Aussies to save money on groceries. It’s also difficult for me to explain to people who don’t know about it. I’ve been researching lately and have found many misconceptions about couponing.
So here are my top 5 reasons why we all should be using coupons:
1) Coupons help you live more frugally and budget better
The first reason couponers love couponing is that it helps us live more frugally and budget better. Frugal living has lots of benefits, but the biggest is allowing you to achieve financial freedom. Also, maximising your resources will enable you to save and support more money than you spend. Frugal living can help lower consumption and produce less waste. In addition, a frugal lifestyle can lower landfilling and help protect natural resources.
88% of Australians use coupons to get discount deals they love. One frugal living tip is to collect coupons before heading to the store or shopping online.
You don’t need to depend on cutting coupons from newspapers and magazines these days. Some apps and websites publish coupon codes, and you can check individual online stores for coupons. They can help you get discounts on food delivery, travel, furniture shopping, office supplies, and more from your favourite online stores.
2) Coupons will help you find bargains that aren’t on sale
I hate when I’m out shopping and come across something that looks great on the shelf, only to find out later that it’s already sold out! This makes me feel very sad and frustrated as I think, “why did I waste time and gas driving out there?” But with coupons, you can easily find these items online and get them delivered to your doorstep. This means you won’t have wasted any gas or time going out to shop, and you’ll save even more money than if you had bought it yourself.
3) Coupons are easy to apply and redeem
I love seeing all those little coupons on my grocery receipts that tell me what products are being discounted and how much I’m getting off. I never knew before that they made it so easy to see everything I had saved.
Coupons are easy to apply and redeem; you match the product you want to purchase with the coupon you need. If you’re buying meat, then you would look for the coupon that fits the brand of meat you want to buy. So if you’re buying cereal, you’d look for the coupon that matches the specific type you want. The best part is that it doesn’t matter if the coupon is from a newspaper, magazine, or any other source – it all works the same way.
4) Coupons are a great way to build savings over time
For example, let’s say you are looking to buy a new vacuum cleaner for $50. Well, you could either spend $50 or wait till the next time you get a coupon for it and buy an additional $25 off. That would mean you could save another $25 for several months and wouldn’t have spent any extra money. But if you didn’t know about coupons, you might not have known about that additional discount and would have spent $50 right away. And that would have meant wasting $25 extra.
So, coupons allow you to take advantage of deals that wouldn’t otherwise be available. And the longer you wait, the bigger the discount. This means that you get more value in return.
5) Coupons save you time and effort
One of the biggest problems I’ve seen with couponing is that people try to do it all by searching for coupons online and trying to figure out which ones work and which don’t. But once you use coupons, you don’t have to worry about figuring anything out. All you need is a list of what you need to buy and coupons that fit the bill. Then you apply them to your purchases.
And all of this without having to leave home or spend any extra money. You’ll be surprised at how much you can save with coupons and how quickly you’ll be able to put together a meal or two for dinner. When I first started couponing, I didn’t realise just how much I would be able to save until I had a good few years of experience under my belt. I used to think I would never be able to save enough to get myself out of debt. But once I got into the habit of using coupons regularly, I realised that I would be able to save thousands of dollars every year.
So now that you have a few reasons why we should be using coupons, I hope you will try it.
